Annalise: A Charming Backstory
Posted on December 15 2017
Nobody really understands the amount of thought that a man will put into getting a gift for those who mean the most to him. He considers whether the gift will be cliché, he considers whether the recipient already has something of a similar nature and finally, he considers utility.
Men don’t give gifts, they like to tell a story...
The story of Annalise begins with two people in a relationship. The man, knowing exactly what
makes his girlfriend tick, buys her a charm practically every birthday, Christmas—basically, when it matters.
Each gift had to do with how she makes him feel, and her charm bracelet is home to many good feelings.
One day, he realised that while there were a lot of factory made charms, all of them were the same, all of them were boring. He wondered if it could be possible to customize his girlfriend’s next charm in the same way that one would customise a pendant for a locket.
The Annalise Journey: From Idea to Photographic Charm Bracelet
Out of sheer curiosity, Matt, the co-founder of Annalise, decided to make a custom charm for hisgirlfriend. It didn’t have to be complicated, but he wanted it to have real meaning behind it. Not symbolically, but literally this time.
After thinking about lockets and how many pendants have photographs, he came up with the idea of having a photo album on your wrist. With every new memory comes a new pendant...
The idea stuck with him until he decided that, while he could not find a photographic charm for his girlfriend’s charm bracelet, he would make it himself.
After 12 months, Matt ended up with five different photographic charm design, but one of those really resonated with him. Upon seeing what he had created, his partner Lise, managed to sell the remaining four charms within 30 minutes after placing the images on social media.
It was a very natural progression from creating to selling. Two years later, Matt and Lise have both a baby and a business together!
